Normally this would send me running for the nearest gaming console/computer/wall to bash my head against, but none of this happened.
I think I actually like The Voice.
And that's despite the constant bombardment of advertisements for it over the past few months, which made me desperate to hate the show. Thanks a lot, channel 9. But more on that in a future blog post.
If somehow have missed it (which seems inexplicable at this point), The Voice is your standard musical talent show - people sing, the judges (or coaches, in this case) pick who they want to stay, and the rest piss off to resurface on another show next year.
Here's the twist - the coaches can't see the talent, and must decide if they want them based on the voice alone. Ohh, ahhh. Not a bad little gimmick, but hardly a game-changer.
But what makes this show enjoyable for me are the coaches. They all seem incredibly genuine, positive, and have all actually achieved things in the industry, unlike most other judges on similar programs.
Oh, and Delta Goodrem is freakin' beautiful.
Marry me, Delta. Please?
The other big plus for The Voice is that all the people in the competition are actually genuinely talented. Blah blah blind girl is great blah blah, but I felt everyone on the show had their own remarkable voice, which is rare in such a show.
My only real issue - who on earth is the Irish guy hosting the show? Is he fulfilling the Irish quota for Australian TV or something?
Aside from that... Not bad, and far better than the American incarnation of the show. Kudos for making me watch one of these shows without wanting to stab myself in the face, channel 9.
Clearly I'm not the only one who thinks so either, as it's rating through the roof.
Meanwhile, over on channel 7's Australia's Got Talent, you can hear the crickets chirp. Maybe someone will finally get the hint that we never want to see Kyle Sandiland's stupid ugly mug on TV ever again?
